Algiers Point Fine Art Gallery

Recently my dot art hung at Algiers Point Fine Art Gallery at 837 1/2 Opelousas Avenue in Algiers Point. Algiers Point is across the Mississippi River from the French Quarter. The display included works from the last nine years: 5" x 5"'s, 6" x 6"'s and 20" x 20"'s. The gallery's entrance faces a street corner.

NOLA Potter, First Friday, October

On the first Friday of the month, NOLA Potter has a reception open to public. For the October reception several, among the 50 artists represented, had new works hanging.
I too brought new works. Below are some photos from that night.

Private Preview Party at NOLA Potter

Last night I attended a reception at a new gallery, NOLA Potter L.L.C., in Algiers Point - which is located across the Mississippi River from the French Quarter in New Orleans, LA. My art hangs on a wall close to the front door. I am one of 35 or so artists in the gallery.

Eleven years ago I participated in a small group show at this same location. Back then the space was known as Lallybroch Gallery. Since the gallery exhibition area was small we were advised to paint small works. That is when I painted my first small do art paintings. Everyone I spoke to raved about the pieces and encouraged me to make more. So, showing in the same locale was very meaningful to me.

Below are some photos from the reception at the gallery. There was live music, food and drink. It didn’t take long for the gallery to become crowded.

The Problem Painting

Here’s the painting that’s given me so much trouble since I began this batch. I’ve had to paint out some sections. Hopefully I’ll work the kinks out soon. Trying to mix colors to match is always a challenge. There are times when I just have to put a piece aside and come back to it later.

Since I’m posting this one, I might as well show some photos that explain what it’s about. Last April the Friends of Rivertown Fine Art Gallery closed its doors for good. Here are the pieces that I had in the gallery since March of ’06. The status of the gallery had been in limbo for much of that time. For a number of Saturdays I was paid to sit at the gallery and sell the art. So, I spent a lot of time in this place. There’s a back working space that is great for artmaking. I painted many of my small paintings while I was there. Anyway I hate to see this venue go . . .

The colors I am using for this painting came from the gallery. This space is connected to a planetarium. Blue and black are used in that building too. Just as I did in the other pieces, I create a simplified personal symbol of an experience.
