Storm Scare

In the fall of 2002 two tropical storms came through the New Orleans area. I painted this in reaction to the local drama. Note the tape patterns in the painting. Residents tape up windows just like that before storms. The summer of that year is when I painted four large dot paintings and my first four small dot paintings.

Striped Circles

Since I haven't made any progress with new dot paintings, I figured I post this drawing I recently completed. Given the “oohs” and “ahs” from folks watching me draw this sketch, I will probably pursue more drawings like this one.

Viral Mutation

Last summer I painted this image of a mutating virus. It has the shapes that are close to the ones in my dot art and it includes some the same colors that I used in my Alpha Series.

Dot Curtains

When I moved into my house, sixteen years ago, these curtains were already in the master bedroom. Little did I know that the curtains would later influence me to work with dots in my artwork. They were not the only inspiration, but they were and still are the first things I see when I wake up.

Midpoint

The last time I posted I reached the midpoint in this batch. I more or less have the designs for other paintings worked out. However, I’ve had a number of year-end and year-beginning tasks to complete before resuming painting.

Also, I’ve continued to edit my list of ideas. Some of them are just not going anywhere. In doing so, I’m realizing that 2007 provided me with a lot more visual stimulation than other years. Anyway, I didn’t want to leave folks hanging.

Happy New Year!

Happy Twelfth Night!
