Here is the second batch of the “o” series. Actually, this is a preview since they are not complete. I have yet to add their dots. Their names will reverse the letter-order. So instead of “oa”, there will be “ao”. All these pieces will be based on works spanning the period of October ’05 through June ’06 – my return to the New Orleans area. Now if I can just decide on dot patterns for all of these . . .

Poydras Home Art Show
Here are my newest dot paintings: “Uno,” “Dos” and “Tres”. They measure 20” x 20”. I completed them for the annual Poydras Home Art Show that was held this weekend. My work hung in the front hallway. To see more pictures click the colored link to my blog pic journal. Previously I posted larger images of each painting.

Three New Pieces!
Over the last three days, I’ve pushed myself to complete three new paintings for the Poydras Home Art Show & Sale. The drop-off deadline was Wednesday 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. I made it with an hour and a half to spare.
The show will be this Saturday and Sunday. It usually attracts a good size crowd. Hopefully I’ll have some sales this year.
I began working on these way back in July. Every now and then I’ve done a little more to them. They are transition pieces for whatever comes next. I’m not sure what I’ll do next.

Finished a Series!
Finally they are done! Here are the eleven remaining pieces in my “o” series. Theses are all based on sights and experiences from my evacuation to Memphis. The next “o” series will be based on what has happened since my return to New Orleans. In between I’m working some larger squares that are 16” x 16” and 20” x 20”. Enjoy!

I Painted Last Week!
After staring at my background colors for months, I was inspired to finish these paintings last week. Hopefully this week will be as productive.

Paintings at Ele
Some of my code paintings are now hanging at Ele Shoes and Accessories on Magazine Street in Uptown New Orleans. Only seven of the original twenty-four 6" x 6" paintings remain. The others have sold over the last four years. September 2005, I started another series of 5" x 5" paintings. I’ve posted pictures of eight of them so far - "The 'o" Series."

Code Series
The eight paintings below were completed four years ago. Originally I began with the orange piece. It included some colors I liked at the time. However, I had a lot of trouble deciding how to complete the piece. I soon began work on three others with similar colors schemes. For each one I kept an overall dominant color.
The triangles were just too harsh a shape for me. So, I added small dots over the triangles to soften the pieces. The purple and blue ones came first and then the red one. I finished the orange one last.
Since the four worked, I decided I needed to do four more. I had been asked to put work in a lobby of an office building and these pieces were the ones I intended to place there. Although I completed the other four during the summer of 2002, the use of the lobby space fell through.

Masks in Blue
The three paintings were painted in 1994. I thought the dots would work well as sequins on Mardi Gras masks. These are not my favorite pieces, but I'm including them to show that dots kept creeping up in my work at various points over the years.
It wasn't until 2002 that I made a large grouping of dot pieces.

Picnic
This was a project from my Painting I class at Mississippi State. We were instructed to use dots of pure color and place complementary colors adjacent to each other. We were using the Seurat Post-Impressionistic approach.
I had enjoyed playing with Impressionism in high school art classes. When this project came along I was thrilled. Later on this carried over into my interest in the Aboriginal technique of using dots.
I used an old photo of my grandfather and his cousin picnicking on the levee for my composition.
